The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Episodes 5-7 Recap

The team is finally assembled and it looks like Gordon Bombay is coming around. Things are looking good for he and Alex until we meet one of our favorite tropes the absentee father who is the cooler parent. Evan’s dad Rob shows up in town and he’s playing with his band. They’re playing a bar show and he’d love for Evan to attend and surprisingly Evan is really excited to watch a bunch of 50 somethings play a bar show. Alex is not down as she knows Rob is a tremendous cockwaffle who will disappoint Evan. Gordon agrees to take Evan to the show, after the show Gordon and Rob have a pissing contest. Gordon makes sure Rob knows how important it is to go to the game and support his son, but Rob has a college gig that requires him to be there at 9:00 on the day of the show!? So Gordon decides to give him a “ride” to the airport where he proceeds to kidnap him and force him to watch the game. Evan sees his dad in the stands and gets super hyped not knowing that his dad would rather not be anywhere near this game. Evan scores a goal and the Don’t Bothers win a game! Everybody is happy except Rob but he can go fuck himself and hopefully pay some back child support…

Gordon is driving his shit box around town and when passing a construction site his window gets smashed. The construction worker comes to apologize and who is it? Fulton Reed, 1/3 of the bash brothers (Yes I count Kenny Wu!) and he’s excited to see his old coach as he hasn’t seen him in years and the Ducks are having a big 25th anniversary gala. Some of the squad is going to be back in town to go to the extravaganza. Gordon shows up to the bar and gets reunited with the crew and see Fulton, Connie and Guy (who nobody ever calls out for being Fulton’s brother IRL), Kenny Wu, Adam Banks and Averman. They catch up and call out Gordon for not keeping in touch and let him know Charlie didn’t come because he know Gordon would disappoint him, which is weird as Charlie is grown now and shouldn’t give a fuck about his middle school hockey coach. Gordon lets them know he’s not going to the event as he wasn’t invited. Now that Evan is a goal scorer on the Don’t Bothers, Coach T invites him to practice with the Ducks and wants him to come back. Of course a video leaks online (it’s 2021 you don’t think asshole kids would do this!). At the event the OG Ducks find out Coach Bombay wasn’t invited, they bounce, get in Averman’s limo and are able to break in and get a limo on to the Ice at the Ice Palace. They take Gordon to the event and hijack the event! The next day the OG’s join the Don’t Bothers to practice and Gordon finally steps up to help coach them up. After a great practice the team sees the video of Evan with the Ducks…

The Don’t Bothers are pissed that Evan their captain has been betrayed them. Alex makes them hold a players only meeting and it does not go very well until the power goes out. The Ice Palace is a known shithole and the power dies, but luckily Coach Bombay has a great idea. So Gordon teaches them about Pond Hockey, which is where Gordon found his initial love of hockey. After a bunch of team bonding activities the team plays blindfolded hockey and gets that click they were waiting for. Evan rips off his C as he realizes this team shouldn’t have a captain as they are a true team. We find that Gordon cut the power intentionally to get the team to bond and that they are in good hands with Alex as their coach. During the game Alex calls a time out in crunch time of the game to prep them for the final play. After their blindfolded exercise they all close their eyes. Instead of taking advantage the other team lets them win the face off and win the game. If I was the coach of the other team I would be insanely pissed as they were the definition of a fuck around gang. Now the Ducks are a winning team and the future is looking bright.
