Navigating the wasteland that is children’s television can be a daunting task. With so many different avenues for shows it is easy for your child to get sucked in to wormholes of terrible shows. I will also be putting together a list of shows I can’t stand so hopefully your kids can stay clear of those, but the following shows I actually find enjoyable.
Bluey
- Bluey legit may be one of the greatest shows on television. Fun for all ages
- Helps fuel your kid with imaginative ideas and covers complex issues with ease.
- Short run time is also great when you say “1 more episode”.
Blaze and the Monsters Machines
- This show teaches your kid all things STEM.
- I can’t think of another show that will have your kid singing songs about inertia or centripetal force.
- Using music as well to hammer home the concepts.
Blues Clues and You
- Soft simple show that teaches some problem solving.
- Used Josh on Cameo for my son’s birthday and he knocked it out of the park!
Super Why
- Teaches a lot about reading and provides answers to lots of questions. Really helps with learning the alphabet.
- It’s a standard PBS kids type show, so you can’t go wrong there.
Number Blocks
- Easy show to introduce math
- Show starts basic and moves up in complexity as the episodes continue
- Super short run time, so always easy when looking for something quick to entertain
Gabby’s Dollhouse
- This is one of the first shows my son binged as quickly as possible.
- The music alone has warranted its own playlist.
- The show has lots of pauses that allow for interaction
- Each Gabby Cat has something special to offer.
Thomas and Friends (Classic)
- Gave my son his love of trains.
- There are so many different trains that all work together in order to keep the railways of Sodor the best railway out there!
- Lots of great books and songs to stay engaged when not watching the show
Daniel Tiger
- Daniel Tiger goes there! It handles all sorts of issues and uses music to help give you slogans that you can use out there in the real world!
- Lots of companion books that my son also loves.
Stillwater
- A very calming show that shares different fables.
- This shows keeps it mellow and uses pretty creative storytelling to tell deeper messages.
Sesame Street
- The classic! Sesame Street is a super consistent show.
- You can go back and pretty much watch all 50+ seasons and enjoy each episode you land on.
- Lots of books and other material as well so they can continue to learn from their favorite characters.
Ada Twist Scientist
- Firstly it’s a great book series and we love all of the books in the series.
- Ada Twist is a great show as it teaches science principles.
- Nothing better than singing along about having a hypothesis!
Hope this helps as I know the amount of content out there can get overwhelming. I’d love to know some of your favorite shows for your little ones, let me know in the comments!
