Snoopy Night at Home: From Movie to Comics to Camp Snoopy

This summer, my son discovered Peanuts, and it all started with The Peanuts Movie. We first watched it together for one of our movie nights (you can read that post here), and it quickly became his go-to pick for winding down after a busy day. There’s no big scary villain, although my son loves to say Lucy is “aggressive,” and it has just the right mix of humor and sweetness.

From there, Snoopy became a full-on summer obsession. We started checking out Peanuts comic strips (Charles Shulz was prolific with the comics) and books before long, he was flipping through them regularly. He’s 5, so he’s not reading on his own yet, but Snoopy has been a helpful tool. We’ve been adding some “readers” to his wish list to keep it going when the holidays or his birthday come up. The short, witty panels and timeless humor make them perfect for building confidence and keeping him engaged.

It’s nice to have a simple show he can calm down to at the end of a busy summer day. Once school starts, we’ll keep show watching to weekends, but the Snoopy reading can stay during the week. Big shout-out to Apple TV+ for keeping Snoopy alive for a new generation they’ve made some fun new shows while still offering a great collection of the classics I grew up watching.

We wrapped up our Snoopy-filled summer with a trip to Knott’s Berry Farm to visit Camp Snoopy. He got to meet Snoopy and Charlie Brown, ride the train, and try some rides that I thought might be out of his comfort zone like Pig Pen’s Mud Buggys, but he ended up loving them. If you have a kid who loves Snoopy and you live in Southern California, I highly recommend it. Get some cool merch while you’re there the pricing is actually reasonable compared to the financial gut punch that is Disney.

How We Did Snoopy Night at Home

Snoopy Night was simple but full of Snoopy touches:

  • WatchThe Peanuts Movie, one of the newer Apple TV+ Snoopy shows, or a classic special (It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a favorite)
  • Activity: Read a few Peanuts comics together before bed or print some free Snoopy coloring pages

Snoopy Night has become a great theme night. It was a way to celebrate something my son connected with all summer. From the first movie to the comics to Camp Snoopy, it all felt like one big, happy arc. And honestly, if Lucy ever offers me a football, I’m not falling for it either.

Tell me about your love of Peanuts or if your child has a similar comfort show. I’d love to hear what’s a hit in your house.
